General Motors has received hundreds of complaints regarding the issue, including reports of minor injuries and property damage.
Truck owners are advised to ensure the tailgate is securely latched before driving and will be notified about the recall starting March 18.
Dealerships have been instructed to halt sales of affected vehicles until necessary repairs, involving the replacement of an exterior touchpad switch, are completed.
