Gene-Edited Chickens Show Partial Resistance to Bird Flu in Early Research

Scientists edited chickens' genes to resist bird flu, resulting in partial protection.
The gene editing targeted the ANP32 gene in chicken germline cells.
This proof-of-concept study, published on October 10, 2023, showed the chickens had some resistance.
However, further research is still needed for chickens to have complete protection from avian influenza.
Current tools to control bird flu's spread in poultry flocks remain limited.
