• Gendarme Stéphane Plunian died June 6 after being struck by a construction vehicle during the judicial police excavation at Rouvray, Yonne.
• More than 400 gendarmes have been scouring the former “cimetière” of serial killer Emile Louis since May 26 to recover remains nearly 50 years after the victims’ disappearance.
• Plunian joined the Gendarmerie Nationale in October 2003 and had worked with the Yonne criminal identification unit since 2016.
