Overview
- Over the next five years GE Appliances will invest more than $3 billion in its U.S. operations, beginning work at factories in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
- Production of gas ranges will move from Mexico to LaFayette, Georgia, and six refrigerator models now made in China will shift to its Decatur, Alabama plant.
- The program will modernize 11 domestic factories with new automation and capital equipment and expand water-heater and air-conditioning lines.
- Roughly 1,000 new jobs are expected, accompanied by partnerships with universities, technical schools and apprenticeship programs to address skilled-worker shortages.
- This announcement builds on a June $490 million upgrade at Louisville’s Appliance Park and raises the company’s cumulative U.S. investment since 2016 to $6.5 billion.
