Overview
- GE Appliances announced a more than $3 billion investment over five years to modernize eleven U.S. manufacturing plants with new automation and expanded production capacity.
- The plan reallocates production of refrigerators, gas ranges, water heaters and washers from China and Mexico to facilities in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
- The company expects to create roughly 1,000 jobs, including an immediate output increase at its Decatur, Alabama refrigerator plant and a $490 million upgrade in Louisville to produce combo washer-dryers.
- Projects will double capacity for electric and hybrid water heaters in Camden, South Carolina, add new air-conditioner lines in Selmer, Tennessee, and bring gas range production back from Mexico to Georgia.
- GE Appliances executives cited recent tariff changes as a catalyst for the reshoring effort and said they are partnering with schools and apprenticeship programs to build a skilled workforce.
