GE Appliances Commits $3 Billion to Reshore Production and Modernize U.S. Plants

The plan links expanded domestic assembly of refrigerators, gas ranges and water heaters to recent trade tariffs through upgrades at plants in five Southern states.

Overview

  • GE Appliances will invest more than $3 billion over five years to modernize 11 U.S. manufacturing plants and scale up production across key product lines.
  • Production of gas ranges currently made in Mexico and six refrigerator models from China will shift to Georgia and Alabama facilities.
  • Immediate ramp-up at the Decatur, Alabama top-freezer refrigerator plant will add six 22-cubic-foot models to its assembly lines by month’s end.
  • The announcement incorporates the previously unveiled $490 million Louisville upgrade at Appliance Park that will produce combo washer-dryers and front-load washers and create 800 jobs.
  • Leadership attributes the move to recent U.S. tariffs and pledges to strengthen the labor force through school partnerships and apprenticeship initiatives.
