GE says the walkout started before employees could vote on a latest offer that raised pay.

Overview

  • Roughly 640 UAW Local 647 members at GE's Evendale, Ohio, and Erlanger, Kentucky, facilities walked out after their contract expired at midnight on August 27.
  • Members had earlier authorized a strike by 84% on August 22 following weekly solidarity actions at both sites.
  • The union says GE’s counteroffers would raise workers’ health-care costs by 36% over four years, calling the proposals insulting.
  • GE details a final three-year package with 12% general wage increases, $2,500 in accelerated cash payments, added paid time off and sick leave, and a reinstated cost-of-living adjustment.
  • GE reports both sites remain operational under a contingency plan, while Evendale supports marine and industrial engine production and Erlanger ships parts to GE facilities worldwide.
