Overview
- Orders cover propulsion for the future USS Intrepid (DDG 145) and USS Robert Kerrey (DDG 146), the next Flight III Arleigh Burke-class ships.
- Each Arleigh Burke destroyer uses four LM2500 gas turbines for propulsion, with 74 ships active as of January 2025.
- Completion of these deliveries will bring GE’s LM2500 total on active Arleigh Burke-class ships to 296 engines across 74 hulls.
- GE executive Mark Musheno said the LM2500 remains the engine of choice as the Navy pursues a 390-ship goal, with the company committing to ramp capacity.
- The LM2500 family has served navies since 1969, delivers about 33,600 shaft horsepower (25 MW), and counts over 1,500 installations across 39 navies, including more than 700 turbines delivered to the U.S. Navy.
