Gboard Update Rolls Out Optional Toggles to Hide Comma and Period Keys on Android

New toggles let Android typists choose a cleaner layout by hiding the comma and period keys.

Overview

  • The option is arriving in Gboard version 16.0+ across both beta and stable channels, with visibility depending on device and app version.
  • Separate switches for the Comma key and the Period/Full stop key appear under Gboard Settings → Preferences.
  • The controls are enabled by default to keep the familiar layout unless a user chooses to hide either key.
  • Disabling the keys removes them from the main row and widens the spacebar area, which can aid one‑handed use but adds steps for punctuation.
  • Users can still insert punctuation via the ?123 symbols layout, and a period can be typed by double‑tapping the spacebar.
