GBH Cuts 15 Jobs as CPB Funding Rescission Squeezes Budget

The CPB rescission removed about $18 million, roughly 8% of GBH’s FY26 budget.

Overview

  • GBH said 15 positions are being eliminated, with some departures effective immediately and others running through December 2025 or January 2026.
  • The latest cuts affect children’s content projects as well as roles in finance, marketing, and technology, according to President and CEO Susan Goldberg.
  • Congress voted in July to rescind $1.1 billion previously appropriated for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the cuts took effect Oct. 1.
  • This is the fourth round of GBH layoffs this year, following earlier reductions that included nine jobs at WORLD Channel in May, 45 in June, and 13 at American Experience in July.
  • GBH launched a three-year, $225 million Fund the Future campaign on Oct. 1, as public media stations nationwide cut staff, reduce programming, or seek lower fees that could further curtail GBH’s licensing revenue.
