Gaza Starvation Crisis Deepens as Aid Blockade Persists

Because bureaucratic disputes over aid control have frozen UN relief efforts, hunger-related deaths are accelerating across Gaza.

Overview

  • More than 100 aid organisations, including MSF, Oxfam and Save the Children, warned of mass starvation in Gaza and urged an immediate ceasefire.
  • Israeli restrictions have left tonnes of food, water and medical supplies untouched in warehouses inside and around the enclave.
  • Since May, UN human rights monitors say over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces while queuing at distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
  • Gaza’s Health Ministry reports at least 101 hunger-related deaths, mostly children, and medics at Shifa Hospital are collapsing from acute malnutrition.
  • Ceasefire negotiations remain stalemated over who should administer aid deliveries, prolonging the humanitarian standstill.
