Overview

  • The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reports 477,000 Gazans, or 22% of the population, are at IPC Phase 5 'catastrophic' hunger, signaling imminent famine.
  • More than 116,000 metric tons of food remain blocked at Gaza's border, while the World Food Programme has exhausted all food stocks and closed its bakeries.
  • Over one million Gazans are at 'emergency' hunger levels, with acute malnutrition widespread, especially among children, 93% of whom are at critical risk according to Save the Children.
  • The price of staple foods like wheat flour has surged by up to 3,000%, leaving many families unable to afford basic nutrition, and forcing desperate coping strategies like scavenging garbage.
  • International leaders and humanitarian organizations are urging Israel to lift the blockade immediately, condemning it as a war crime and warning of further loss of life if aid access is not restored.
