Overview
- Suleiman al-Obeid, known as the “Palestinian Pelé,” was shot dead by Israeli forces in southern Gaza on August 6 while queuing at a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid distribution site.
- His killing raises to 662 the number of athletes and their relatives killed in Gaza’s conflict since October 2023, including 421 footballers, among them 103 children.
