Gaza Conflict Continues with No End in Sight, Netanyahu Declares
Israeli strikes kill 35 in central Gaza as humanitarian crisis deepens amid failed ceasefire negotiations.
- Israeli strikes in central Gaza have resulted in at least 35 deaths, with the conflict showing no signs of abating as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu states the war will continue for 'many more months'.
- The war, which began with a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, has so far killed more than 21,800 Palestinians and wounded over 55,000, according to the Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza.
- The conflict has displaced approximately 85% of Gaza's 2.3 million residents and sparked a humanitarian crisis, with a quarter of Gaza residents facing starvation, according to the United Nations.
- Netanyahu has stated that Israel must maintain open-ended security control over the Gaza Strip and has rejected the idea of the internationally-backed Palestinian Authority participating in any future rule over Gaza.
- Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and a prisoner swap have so far been unsuccessful, with both Hamas and the smaller Islamic Jihad militant group stating that no more hostages will be freed until Israel ends the offensive and withdraws from Gaza.
