Gayle Manchin, wife of Senator Joe Manchin, and her colleague Guy Land were involved in a car accident in Birmingham, Alabama, while traveling for an Appalachian Regional Commission event.
The accident occurred during a police chase involving a suspect wanted on felony charges, identified as Tradarryl Rishad Boykins.
Both Gayle Manchin and Land were hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition.
Boykins was arrested and charged with felony assault, illegal possession of a firearm, and attempting to elude a police officer.
Boykins' bond has been set at $2 million.
