Overview

  • At its Brussels pledging summit, Gavi aims to raise $9 billion to fund 500 million new childhood vaccinations and save an estimated 8 million lives between 2026 and 2030.
  • U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that the United States will withhold Gavi funding until the alliance re-earns public trust over alleged vaccine safety and decision-making issues.
  • The UK pledged £1.25 billion for the next five-year period, a 40% real-terms cut that experts warn could result in 23 million fewer vaccine doses and 365,000 additional deaths.
  • Canada reaffirmed its commitment with a $675 million pledge that will support immunization programs, solar-powered cold chains and rollout of a new malaria vaccine.
  • The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation committed $1.6 billion, joining other partners in backing an alliance that has immunized over one billion children and saved more than 18 million lives.
