  • On August 10, 2025, Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai officially opened the permanent bench of the Gauhati High Court at Naharlagun near Itanagar.
  • The 21,208.86-square-metre facility was built by the Public Works Department at an estimated cost of ₹135 crore and includes modern courtrooms, judges’ chambers and support infrastructure.
  • In his inaugural address, Gavai underscored the imperative of judicial decentralisation to ensure speedy, cost-effective justice reaches citizens beyond urban centres.
  • Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu described the inauguration as a landmark in enhancing the state’s justice delivery system through faster case disposal and improved accessibility.
  • The event drew Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal, Gauhati HC Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and several Supreme Court judges, reflecting strong institutional backing.
