Overview

  • A landslide at Gaurikund on July 26 blocked a 30-metre stretch of the Kedarnath trek and forced officials to suspend the yatra.
  • Authorities have evacuated over 1,600 pilgrims to safety and are building an alternate path for those still en route.
  • Incessant downpours flooded streams in Chameli and Rumsi villages, sending water and debris into multiple homes.
  • Rain-weakened terrain caused a 100-metre caving of the Yamunotri highway near Phoolchatti and toppled a tree on the Uttarkashi-Kedarnath motor route in Tehri’s Balganga tehsil.
  • The IMD has issued orange alerts for five districts and yellow warnings across the state while advising pilgrims to avoid hazardous routes.
