Overview

• On May 27, Legend Jenkins was struck by a Jeep Cherokee outside a crosswalk on West Hudson Boulevard while walking home with his 10-year-old brother.
• Gastonia Police arrested Jessica Ivey and Samuele Jenkins on May 29, charging them with felony involuntary manslaughter and child neglect.
• Investigators found no evidence of speeding or wrongdoing by the 76-year-old Jeep driver and she has not been charged.
• The Jenkinses maintain it was the first time their children walked to the store alone and have expressed profound grief over their son’s death.
• They remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in Gastonia County Court on June 20 for their next hearing.
