Gas Well Fire North of Calgary Extinguished After 24 Hours

The fire, which injured five workers, was brought under control with ongoing investigations into the cause.

A natural gas well fire north of Calgary burned for approximately 24 hours before being extinguished.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon, resulting in injuries to five workers, three of whom sustained life-threatening injuries.
HWN Energy Ltd. confirmed the fire was contained to its surface lease and no further release of liquids or gases occurred after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The company has mobilized well control specialists and additional air monitors, and established an exclusion zone around the site.
Investigations by the Alberta Energy Regulator and Occupational Health and Safety officers are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion.
