Overview

• On May 12–13, 2025, gas pipelines were accidentally damaged during construction work in Burgoberbach, Weilheim, and Hamburg-Rahlstedt, causing leaks and evacuations.
• In Burgoberbach, a 28-year-old worker damaged a gas line during façade work, prompting the evacuation of 30 people; the gas supply was quickly shut off, and no injuries occurred.
• In Weilheim, a major gas main was breached during excavation, cutting off supply to numerous households and businesses for hours and causing €20,000 in damages.
• In Hamburg-Rahlstedt, a gas line was damaged during building work, leading to the evacuation of a nearby residential house until the leak was contained.
• Emergency services, including fire brigades, police, and utility companies, coordinated efforts to isolate leaks, ventilate affected areas, and restore safety in all three incidents.
