Gas Main Repair Underway at Airds High School After Precautionary Evacuation

Authorities have secured the campus after finding a ruptured gas main likely damaged by nearby roadworks.

Airds High School in Campbelltown has been evacuated following a gas leak.

Overview

  • Fire and Rescue NSW evacuated the school at about 1:30 pm on Monday after staff detected a gas odour in classrooms.
  • Crews traced the leak to a ruptured mains line next to roadworks and continuously monitored gas levels to protect the site.
  • All students and staff were safely sent home via an alternate pickup point on Briar Road while emergency teams secured the area.
  • Contractors remain on site working to restore the pipeline within a few hours and Riverside Drive remains closed to traffic.
  • Airds High School used social media to reassure parents the evacuation was precautionary and to share ongoing safety updates.
