Overview

• Preliminary probes indicate an improper boiler installation in the newly acquired unit triggered the gas leak that led to the explosion.
• The Aug. 15 blast caused structural failures in four apartments and significant damage in two other units of the 32-unit building at Edzna and San Borja.
• Official injury counts vary between four and seven minor cases, all treated on site with one person later evaluated at a private hospital.
• Emergency teams evacuated all occupants, shut off gas and water lines and secured a stationary tank along with about 20 gas cylinders before offering two weeks of hotel lodging and rental assistance.
• SGIRPC and INVI have cordoned off the site and projected roughly four months for the Instituto para la Seguridad de las Construcciones to complete a structural rehabilitation.
