Gas Cylinder Explosions Trigger Fires at Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj

Two separate fires gutted over 100 tents in Prayagraj's Maha Kumbh Mela, with no casualties reported as emergency teams swiftly contained the blazes.

A fire on January 19 in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela was caused by two gas cylinder explosions, destroying over 70 huts and 10 tents at the Gita Press camp.
Another fire occurred on January 20 in Sector 5 during food preparation, but it was quickly extinguished with no reported injuries or major damage.
Officials confirmed no casualties in either incident, crediting swift responses from fire brigades, disaster response teams, and local authorities.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the affected sites and directed strengthened safety measures; Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inquired about the incidents.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, expected to draw over 400 million attendees over six weeks, has implemented extensive fire safety measures, including 53 fire stations and over 1,300 personnel in the area.
