Overview
- Firefighters traced the incident to a blaze around 1:30 p.m. in a ground-floor meter cupboard, where a gas leak was found and small explosions were reported.
- Network operator Liander shut off gas to homes on Lange Dam and surrounding streets to reduce the risk of an explosion.
- Ten houses also lost electrical power during the emergency response.
- Because gas feeds the area from multiple directions, crews had to place stops at several points in the network, making the shutdown a complex operation.
- Liander said the network layout prevents selectively disconnecting individual homes, and reconnection will follow only after the area is declared safe.
