Overview

  • Stead announced his departure after relinquishing white-ball duties in April and concluding that NZC’s single-coach model did not align with his touring preferences.
  • He led New Zealand to the inaugural ICC World Test Championship title in 2021 and orchestrated a 3-0 Test series sweep of India on subcontinental soil last year.
  • Under his tenure, the Black Caps reached the finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2024 Champions Trophy while topping ICC Test and ODI rankings.
  • New Zealand Cricket has initiated a search for a single head coach across all formats, with Rob Walter, Shane Bond, Luke Ronchi and Shane Jurgensen expected to be interviewed.
  • Stead will conclude his stint by leading the team on their July-August Test tour of Zimbabwe before taking time to recharge and explore future coaching opportunities.
