Gary McKee Made MBE for Marathon Fundraising

The honour recognises millions raised for local and national charities, signalling renewed attention as he prepares to run the length of the UK this summer.

Overview

  • McKee was presented with an MBE by Prince William at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, a ceremony he described as a “real surprise” and a “huge honour.”
  • He attended the investiture with his wife, Sue, and their three children, who McKee said had supported him through his challenges.
  • McKee built his reputation with extreme endurance fundraising, including 365 marathons in 2022 while working full time and 100 marathons in 100 days this year that finished at the London Marathon.
  • His campaigns have raised more than £1 million for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and over £2 million in total for charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support and the Licensed Trade Charity.
  • Earlier in June he received a Cumberland Council Special Recognition Award and he has announced a full-length UK run for the inaugural LTC JOGLE Pub Run, scheduled for mid July to mid August.
