Garlasco Reinvestigation Finds 11 New Fingerprints on Kitchen Waste

A 26 September hearing will set the timeline for fingerprint attribution in the court-ordered evidentiary review.

Overview

  • Investigators isolated eleven latent prints during the incidente probatorio, and eight were judged certainly usable by consultants.
  • The prints are on a garbage bag and a cereal container from the Poggi home, with no usable traces on an Estathé bottle or a biscuit wrapper.
  • Attribution tests are expected to be assigned to a specialist from the Scientific Police in Turin, subject to the court’s appointment.
  • Enhanced methods—cyanoacrylate fuming followed by a second chemical staining—revealed prints not detected in 2007.
  • Separately, raw 2007 fingernail DNA data were recovered for reanalysis, and prosecutors say the profile points to Andrea Sempio and partly to an unidentified man, a claim the defenses contest.
