Overview

  • Ward has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including sexual intercourse without consent and indecent assault, over alleged incidents at his Meroo Meadow home in 2013 and his Potts Point apartment in 2015.
  • A woman who first reported the allegations to police conceded under cross-examination that she may have provided incorrect details about how and when the older complainant disclosed the alleged assault.
  • The younger complainant testified that Ward invited him to his South Coast home, encouraged him to keep drinking and then allegedly slid his hand into the teen’s shorts, later mounting him on a bed despite repeated requests to stop.
  • Defence counsel David Campbell SC pressed witnesses on inconsistencies in timing, location and sequence of events to cast doubt on the reliability of prosecution evidence.
  • The jury is set to hear further testimony, including from the older complainant, as the trial proceeds into its next phase
