Overview
- A serving member of An Garda Síochána and five other people were arrested this week and have all been released without charge.
- The officer, detained under organised crime legislation by the Anti-Corruption Unit, was suspended from duty immediately after release.
- The inquiry began when detectives discovered that more than €100,000 worth of seized drugs had disappeared from a station before interview exhibits could be presented to a suspect.
- Detective gardaí carried out searches and arrests with support from the Anti-Corruption Unit and the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, including detentions in the midlands and the east.
- Investigations continue under a Senior Investigating Officer in the Eastern Region, with a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
