Gardaí Release Facial Reconstruction to Identify Woman Found on Cork Greenway

With no database match, Gardaí turned to a US facial reconstruction expert to generate new leads.

Overview

  • The image was created by US forensic specialist Dr Michelle Vitali of Penn West University and released as part of a renewed appeal.
  • The skeletal remains were found on 5 January 2021 during construction on the Midleton–Youghal Greenway in Co Cork.
  • Forensic analysis indicates a woman over 70, about 1.52–1.57m tall, large framed, likely with arthritis, who wore dentures made in the 1960s.
  • Investigators say she possibly died in the mid-1980s, and items recovered included a slip, tights, a nightdress and size 2 brown leather shoes, along with privately made dentures with a porous acrylic base and porcelain posteriors.
  • DNA comparisons yielded no match, Gardaí are liaising with Interpol, and the public is urged to contact Cobh Garda Station (021 490 8530) or the Garda Confidential Line (1800 666 111).
