Gardaí Probe Suspected Murder-Suicide After Father and Son Found Dead at Separate Dublin Homes

Post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis will guide the case as officers say they are not seeking anyone else.

Overview

  • Police identified the deceased as Wayne O’Reilly, 48, and his 11-year-old son Oisín, whose bodies were found at different addresses in west Dublin.
  • Emergency services were called to Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot at about 8:30am where the man was found, and later located the boy at a house on Lealand Road in Clondalkin.
  • Gardaí say they suspect the child died violently and the man may have taken his own life, with the investigation being treated as a suspected murder-suicide pending post-mortem results.
  • Both scenes have been sealed for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, the Coroner has been notified, and the Office of the State Pathologist has been requested.
  • Tusla confirmed the child was known to the agency but not in state care, and NEPS has been deployed to support the school community as a Senior Investigating Officer leads the inquiry.
