Garda Pleads Not Guilty in M50 Case Over Delivery Worker's Severed Leg

Prosecutors must serve a book of evidence by 12 January ahead of a bid to return the case for trial.

Overview

  • Dublin District Court recorded the not-guilty plea before Judge Michele Finan after significant disclosure was provided to the defence.
  • The case was adjourned to 12 January for the State to complete and serve the book of evidence and to seek a return-for-trial order.
  • Garda Neil Doyle is charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm in relation to a 28 October 2023 collision at Junction 11 north on the M50 in Tallaght.
  • The prosecution followed a Fiosrú investigation, and the DPP directed that summary disclosure in the District Court applies only on a guilty plea, otherwise necessitating the Circuit Court.
  • The accused attended but did not speak, and alleged victim João Henrique Ferreira, 24, who previously returned from Brazil for earlier dates, was not required to attend today.
