GAP Commits Nearly 2 Billion Pesos to Modernize Aguascalientes and Morelia Airports

The investments will boost regional growth by expanding infrastructure to increase capacity at the two regional hubs.

Overview

  • On July 29, GAP allocated 859 million pesos to upgrade the Aguascalientes airport, including terminal expansions, a new waiting lounge, an additional boarding gate, increased platform capacity, a new aircraft position.
  • On July 30, GAP unveiled a 1,078-million-peso program for Morelia airport that will enlarge terminal space, expand waiting areas, install autonomous migration filters, enlarge baggage claim halls, add boarding gates.
  • These investments form part of GAP’s 52-billion-peso Master Plan 2025–2029 covering infrastructure upgrades across its Mexican airport network.
  • Aeropuerto Internacional de Aguascalientes handled nearly one million passengers annually and recorded 475,000 users in the first half of 2025 across six domestic and four international routes.
  • Morelia’s authorities have called for reinstating Mexico City frequencies along with expanding domestic and international routes to maximize the planned upgrades.
