Gang Posing as Police Raids Quimilí Rancher’s Home, Safe Found Open With Cash Missing

Prosecutors ordered route controls after cameras recorded the attackers.

Overview

  • At least four hooded men entered after claiming to be police, beat and bound the caretaker, and carried off a heavy safe from the home in Quimilí.
  • The safe was recovered hours later in the Canal El Alto near Loreto beside Provincial Route 18, opened and containing documents, chequebooks, promissory notes, keys and a Chilean passport.
  • The large sum allegedly stored inside—reported by local media as about $200,000,000 in dollars—was not found with the safe.
  • Prosecutor Fernanda Vittar launched interprovincial checkpoints, circulated images to neighboring forces, and is reviewing the rancher’s recent financial movements as a possible lead.
  • Investigators are following clues on two vehicles and a possible escape route toward Chaco, and no arrests have been reported.
