Ganesh Visarjan Operations Scale Up Across Cities as Immersions Surge

Court directives require smaller PoP idols to be immersed in artificial ponds.

  • Bengaluru logged 73,959 immersions on Thursday after 79,039 on Wednesday, with 61,006 at lakes and 12,953 via 489 mobile tankers, according to BBMP data.
  • Mumbai reported 59,407 immersions on Thursday as the BMC expanded artificial ponds to 288 citywide and shared ward-wise locations to shift load from natural sites.
  • In Thane, 19,567 immersions were recorded in the first one-and-a-half days, with use of artificial lakes rising to 12,970 year-on-year and over 15 tonnes of Nirmalya sent for composting.
  • Hyderabad prepared 74 artificial ponds alongside 20 lakes and deployed 14,486 sanitation staff, 134 static cranes, 269 mobile cranes, boats, DRF teams and swimmers, with police detailing security and traffic plans.
  • Cities added tech and eco measures including KDMC’s live visarjan-site portal, Pune’s segregated Nirmalya collection and Wagholi quarry re-immersion plan, while Navi Mumbai citizens alleged poor compliance with artificial-pond rules and Visakhapatnam fishermen opposed large-beach immersions.
