Overview
- The arrests on June 7 followed a June 2 heist near the old Koba Metro station where 700 metres of cable valued at Rs 17.85 lakh were stolen.
- Officers recovered stripped copper cables packed for shipment and traced the gang’s method of renting hotel rooms, scouting sites and using rented vehicles.
- The detained suspects are Musharraf Irshad Mulejat, Rashid Ishaq Ismail Dhobi, Rashid Abdul Aziz Shabbir Ansari and Irshad Majeed Allamehar Malik, all from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.
- Investigators say the syndicate processed stolen cables into copper wiring before sending parcels by rail to Delhi to sell through illegal dealers.
- Police are searching for the remaining 11 members of the 15-strong group and probing links to thefts in Delhi, Pune, Panvel, Bhopal and Indore.
