'Death by Lightning' is based on the book 'Destiny of the Republic' by Candice Millard, exploring the true story of Garfield's assassination.
The show marks a significant departure from Benioff and Weiss's previous work, moving from fantasy and sci-fi to a historical drama set in the 20th century.
While a release date has not been announced, the series is part of Benioff and Weiss's $200 million deal with Netflix and follows their upcoming sci-fi series 'Three Body Problem.'
