Overview

  • The row began when Surrey head groundsman Lee Fortis asked India’s coaching staff to stay at least 2.5 metres from the main square during an optional training session.
  • India head coach Gautam Gambhir repeatedly told Fortis he was “just a groundsman” and challenged his authority after being warned against swearing.
  • Fortis threatened to report Gambhir to the ICC match referee if the confrontation continued, but no referral was made.
  • India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak intervened in the exchange and later described Fortis’s approach as “a bit arrogant.”
  • With England leading the series 2-1, both teams have chosen not to lodge formal complaints and remain focused on the final Test at The Oval.
