Galicia’s Bueu and Nigrán Open-Water Swims Draw Record Fields and Introduce Relay

Over 600 swimmers competed in six coastal races over two days.

Overview

  • Jorge Pastoriza won the 7.5km Udra–Pescadoira race in 1:47:11 and Rita Hernández claimed the women’s title in 2:12:30 at the 14th Travesía Concello de Bueu.
  • At the 15th Costa Serena–Gran Premio Concello de Nigrán, Xoel Cubeiro touched out Lucas Costas by one second in the 4km event, while María González finished first among women in 52:14.
  • A newly introduced 2×400m relay saw Xoel Cubeiro team with Lucas Costas to set the fastest mark of 14:02.
  • Participants numbered 123 at Bueu and 525 at Nigrán, with women making up nearly 39% of the field and ages ranging from 4 to 82.
  • Safety operations were led by Asociación Búsqueda y Salvamento de Galicia with Protección Civil do Val Miñor, Guardia Civil del Mar and local kayak clubs providing support.
