Overview

  • Galicia, the first PP-governed autonomous community to enter talks, will meet the Ministry of Housing on June 24 to join the national housing plan that could triple its funding.
  • Under the proposed plan, Spain would boost overall housing resources from €2.3 billion to €7 billion for 2026–2030 under a 60 percent state and 40 percent regional co-financing model.
  • Participation would raise Galicia’s annual housing budget from about €100 million to nearly €380 million in exchange for lifelong protection of public housing.
  • Xunta de Galicia officials led by Housing Minister María Martínez Allegue affirmed they always intended to participate and confirmed the region’s capacity to cover its 40 percent share.
  • Autonomous communities must guarantee permanent safeguards for both rental and sale public housing to qualify for the increased resources.
