Galicia to Air‑Drop 34 Tonnes of Feed to Support Wildlife in Burned Ourense Forests

The plan targets humid refuges to ease pressure on nearby farms.

Overview

  • Officials announced a 34,000‑kilo operation composed of 31,000 kilos of straw and 3,000 kilos of cereals for areas hardest hit by recent fires.
  • About 24,000 kilos will be delivered by helicopter using helimulching to reach vegetation islands in ravines that survived the flames.
  • The aerial drops will use large 200‑kilo bales that include salt stones to supplement the needs of the most affected animals.
  • Initial actions focus on Beade, with planned distributions in Carballeda de Valdeorras, Chandrexa de Queixa, A Mezquita, Oímbra, Avión, Maceda and Vilardevós, with possible expansion.
  • The wildlife effort complements emergency farm support that has already delivered over 93 tonnes of fodder to livestock across 15 municipalities and opened aid lines covering up to €200,000 per person.
