Overview
- The regional government announced a schedule change that moves secondary teachers from 20 to 18 class periods a week starting September 2026, freeing time for tutoring, supervision and school projects in technology, languages, libraries and community life.
- Total working time remains 37.5 hours per week, so the adjustment reduces only classroom teaching and shifts two hours to other school needs.
- A new plan to support diverse learners will begin in September 2026, revising staffing lists in infant and primary schools and adding more specialist and guidance posts in secondary.
- Class sizes will shrink as ESO moves from 30 to 25 students per class starting in 2028–29 and bachillerato limits drop from 33 to 30, with infant reductions finishing in 2026 and primary beginning in 2027–28.
- The measures were presented with CC OO, ANPE, UGT and CSIF, while CIG stayed out of the pact, and final approval and staffing details are still pending as Spain advances a draft law to set a national baseline for teaching hours.
