Overview

  • The Consello de la Xunta has opened public consultation on a draft decree to regulate home delivery of prescription medicines and dietetic products for individuals with recognized dependency in any grade.
  • Only qualified pharmacists may dispense and deliver medications after obtaining patient consent and must maintain detailed records for quarterly reporting to the Consellería de Sanidade.
  • Chronic patients served by hospital pharmacies need over 90% treatment adherence, administrative authorization from area health management and can opt for home delivery or local pharmacy collection.
  • The final text is slated for approval by December 2025, with community pharmacy deliveries launching in 2026 and hospital-based services phased in over more than four years according to dependency level.
  • Pharmacy participation in the program is voluntary, and the Consellería de Sanidade is exploring funding agreements with official pharmacy colleges to incentivize involvement.
