Galicia Extinguishes Two Wildfires and Stabilizes a Third

Regional firefighting teams said coordinated ground and air crews contained the blazes and urged residents to report any new fires via the free 085 number or the ALume app.

Overview

  • The Navia de Suarna fire was declared extinguished after burning 30.99 hectares, of which 30.5 hectares were monte raso and 0.49 hectares were wooded, and crews deployed multiple technicians, brigades, motobombas and aircraft for the operation.
  • The Forcarei blaze burned 34 hectares, mostly monte raso, and was extinguished the same day it began using a force that included agents, brigades, motobombas, earth‑moving equipment and aerial support.
  • A third fire in Camariñas was reported stabilized with provisional estimates of about 20 hectares affected and a multi‑unit response of agents, brigades and motobombas remaining on site.
  • Officials reported no casualties or injuries in these incidents and noted that the predominance of monte raso implies lower loss of mature forest compared with fires that hit woodland.
  • The Consellería do Medio Rural said the large, multi‑component response limited spread and warned citizens to continue reporting active fires through 085 or the ALume app while crews monitor and secure affected areas.
