Overview
- The Xunta moved the application cutoff to October 30 so people affected by September fires can apply without a new order, with the option of a further extension if needed.
- Authorities say 36 grants have been paid so far — 19 for homes, 4 for businesses and 13 for hunting-territory damages — totaling about €1.7 million.
- Payments managed by the Consellería de Medio Rural remain pending, while other disbursements have already been completed.
- The environment department is recruiting 700 volunteers, organized in groups of 25 for 28 interventions across three October weekends and the first in November, with food and lodging covered.
- Teams will lay straw and wood-fiber mulch and build small log-and-stone barriers to limit runoff, alongside a wildlife feeding plan that has delivered 5,000 kg of straw and 300 kg of cereals in Maceda, Oímbra, Monterrei, Cualedro and Laza.
