Overview
- Sergas launched the second edition of the school pilot at CEIP As Fontiñas in Santiago on Tuesday, expanding the program from 55 to 75 schools to reach about 26,500 child immunizations.
- Children aged two to 11 will be offered a needle-free intranasal vaccine at participating schools while health centers are vaccinating children from six months with injectables for those under two.
- Nursing teams will visit participating schools and centers will process parental authorizations so families avoid extra trips to health centers.
- The campaign sets a 60% vaccination target for 3–11 year-olds and also aims to immunize at least 60% of healthcare personnel as part of a broader seasonal schedule that includes staff and those 70+ from Oct. 19, pregnant women from Nov. 2, and people 60–70 from Nov. 9.
- The expansion builds on last year’s pilot that vaccinated 9,668 children at 55 schools with roughly 51% coverage and seeks to add about 7,500 more pupils to raise overall uptake and reduce winter infections and complications.
