Galicia, 13 PP Regions Boycott Government Climate Pact Summit

Regional leaders say the proposal lacks measurable goals with guaranteed financing.

Overview

  • The Xunta de Galicia confirmed it will not attend the national convention scheduled in Ponferrada on October 13–14.
  • Representatives from 13 other PP-governed communities sent a letter to Third Vice President Sara Aagesen confirming their refusal to participate.
  • The regional bloc calls the current framework insufficient and unilateral, demanding quantifiable targets, transparent earmarked funding, and a multi‑year national program to bolster firefighting resources.
  • They seek a reform of the Forestry Law to enable silvicultural treatments, timber use, and extensive livestock, plus an interoperable catalogue within the National Civil Protection System.
  • Galicia also questions the undeveloped 2022 pact and says the €9 billion Climate Social Fund has not reached regions despite timely project submissions, with Ángeles Vázquez rejecting attendance for a mere photo opportunity.
