Overview
- India’s road transport ministry directed NHAI and highway developers to launch YouTube channels and post regular project videos for public viewing and comments.
- Nitin Gadkari ordered QR-coded hoardings on national highways so commuters can scan to see the contractor, consultant and responsible officials, including names and contact details.
- NHAI said vertical boards will also show the NH number, project length, construction and maintenance periods, emergency helpline 1033 and nearby facilities, and will be placed at toll plazas, rest areas, truck lay-bys and highway start/end points.
- Road Transport Secretary V Umashankar said the government is working to write public video-uploading requirements into project contract documents, formalising the practice.
- Officials noted builders already submit drone-shot videos during construction, and Gadkari urged regular performance audits and serious attention to social-media complaints, with nationwide rollout reported in the coming months.
