Gadkari Opens 38-Km NH Link, Launches Elevated Corridor in Puducherry

The ministry signaled a larger investment pipeline for the Union Territory with a quality-first mandate.

Overview

  • Inauguration covered the completed 38 km four-lane Puducherry–Poondiyankuppam section of NH-32 built at a cost of Rs 1,588 crore.
  • Gadkari laid the foundation for a roughly 3.9–4 km elevated corridor between Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi squares on NH-32 costing Rs 436 crore.
  • The ministry projects the elevated corridor to carry about 60,000 PCUs daily and cut travel time on the stretch from roughly 35 minutes to about 10 minutes.
  • A separate foundation stone was laid for improvements on a 14 km East Coast Road stretch (NH-332A) with an outlay of Rs 25.04 crore.
  • Gadkari outlined a plan to invest up to Rs 25,000 crore in Puducherry’s road network and approved in principle additional flyovers over about 16.5 km estimated at Rs 650 crore, pending detailed submissions.
